The Fairmont Heights High School Alumni Association (FHHSAA) holds FHHS and its legacy near and dear to our hearts because it was the first modern “separate-butequal” County school for African Americans that included the twelfth grade when it opened in September 1950.

Many area residents are graduates of FHHS and members of the FHHS Alumni Association. We have become politicians, educators, lawyers, doctors, scientists, computer/IT analyst/programmers, mechanics, carpenters, federal workers, postal workers, professional drivers, entrepreneurs, and engaged in many more careers.

Our most prestigious scholarship, the John J. Williams Scholarship, is named for a courageous man, a brilliant dedicated teacher, mentor, and servant of the FHHS community who taught from 1963-1990. Mr. Williams taught at FHHS for 30 of his 40 year career. He sponsored the senior class, sponsored the 1st mentoring program, sponsored the school newspaper, sponsored many student international trips while teaching various world language courses. He even helped to save the school from closing in 1972.

Mr. Williams served as the President of FHHSAA for many years. He was deeply devoted to promoting an exemplary education and to our community. FHHSAA acknowledges Mr. John J. Williams’ contribution to the legacy of FHHS by offering scholarships to graduating seniors who have been accepted and enrolled in a two-year or 4-year degree program.
